Be It Remembered, That on the 10th day of July, A. D. 1828, in the fifty-third year of the Independence of the United States of America, H. L. Barnum, of the said District, has deposited in this office the title of a Book, the right whereof he claims as author, in the words following to wit:
"The Spy Unmasked; or, Memoirs of Enoch Crosby, alias Harvey Birch, the Hero of Mr. Cooper's Tale of the Neutral Ground: being an authentic account of the secret services which he rendered his country during the Revolutionary War. Taken from his own lips, in short-hand. - Comprising many interesting facts and anecdotes never before published. By H. L. Barnum."
In conformity to the act of Congress of the United States, entitled "An act for the encouragement of learning, by securing the copies of maps, charts, and books, to the authors, and proprietors of such copies, during the times therein mentioned." And also to an act, entitled "An act supplementary to an act, en titled an act for the encouragement of learning, by securing the copies of maps, charts, and books, to the authors and proprietors of such copies, during the times therein mentioned, and extending the benefits thereof to the arts of designing, engraving, and etching historical and other prints.'
